Today is my birthday. I completed my 25th year on this planet at some point earlier this morning (I think at 9:19 AM, but that time is probably only a result of my parents making up a time so that I'd stop asking them about it.) and I feel only about a day older than I did yesterday. I find it a bit odd that I only get to say that I am 25 after I have finished my 25th year of breathing, eating and soiling my pants. It would seem to make more sense that while I am completing my 26th rotation around the sun, I should be able to say that I am 26! Are you looking for a precedent in this case? How about the modern calendar beginning with A.D. 1? It was the first YEAR OF OUR LORD (which is what A.D. means by the way - Anno Domini), and should thus be known as Year One! Ipso facto (what on earth does that even mean?), on this - the day I begin my 26th trip around that beautiful mass of incandescant gas (a gigantic nuclear furnace!), I would like to announce that I am 26 years old!!!! Wait... but I'm not 26 years old, I'm only in my 26th year. I have only completed 25. So I guess I am 25. Sorry about all that.
Anybody heard of this guy? I saw him on Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn and he was pretty funny. He dropped one joke about Michael Jackson that I shall repeat, but only after the disclaimer that I don't actually endorse pedophilia. (That was just for those who are unfamiliar with humor.) (Also, I will use quotes, yet paraphrase - because I'm too lazy to rewind the TiVo.) "You know, Michael Jackson's been arrested again for touching a young boy. That's all we hear about nowadays, Priests sexually abusing kids, Michael Jackson, some janitor at an elementary school... Maybe it's time to do something. Maybe, for too long we have been pointing the finger at the wrong people. Maybe it's time to re-examine society and place the blame where it actually belongs. On those god-damn sexy kids." I don't know if he's done a Comedy Central Special, but I checked the schedule and he's not on it. He does appear often at the Comedy Cellar, but as I no longer live in New York, that means nothing.
I did indeed see the Celebrity Poker back on Tuesday on Bravo. Having watched both the celebrity version, the Travel Channel World Poker Tour, and the granddaddy World Series of Poker on ESPN, it becomes pretty obvious that the celebrity version is the weakest of the bunch. The other two have real poker players playing games for real stakes. That is the draw of poker. People risking their own money in the hopes of winning it big. You can see the torture that the players go through when they are sitting on a Queen-Ten off-suit only a good hand away from closing out a weaker opponent that just raised. In Celebrity Poker - they have risked nothing (only small embarrassment) and thus they don't play like their life is on the line. The only hope is that the celebrities are going to be more outgoing and maybe even know each other, so the trash talking will be good. That was nowhere to be seen in the first game. Maybe this Tuesday, when the cast of West Wing plays, that will change. Why all the poker talk? Tonight I travel to Ann Arbor to to overcome my brutal beating that I took last time I played. Last time I lost $80, so even a good night this time will still leave me down. P.S. Sunday, I plan on installing my TiVoNet card, which may let me show you what my TiVo is currently watching/recording or has coming up. Let's see if I can get it to work first.
I've integrated my Movable Type's comment feature into the PHPBB Forum. Aren't you excited!?! Yeah, well it took a lot of work, but it fulfills a dream i had a while ago to more closely wrap the forum into the site. There is still a lot of cleaning up to do, in both web design, graphics, forum styles and the like... but the hard work is done. How you ask? I realized it would be tough to do, so I found somebody else that did it and copied it. You can read about it here at FluffyBlog. The He/She/It that is Fluffy deserves the grateful thanks that I shall lavish on another day when it's not so late. When you throw this project together with the installation of a TiVo Ethernet card this weekend, you begin to see what has kept me so busy. I'm currently trying to figure out a way to post what I'm currently watching or going to record or something to the site. It can be done, I just have to figure out how. I suspect that I will have to push the information from my computer to keep my TiVo from being hacked by some Romanian script kiddie, so that means I probably won't get around to it until after Christmas.
