My favorite comic strip while growing up was Bloom County. The exploits of Opus, Milo, Portnoy, Hodge-Podge, Steve Dallas and of course (the response to Garfield) Bill the Cat. Unfortunately, in 1989, Berkely Breathed, the Pulitzer Prize winning author discontinued the strip as he was getting burned out. (This is similar with what happened to my second favorite strip, Calvin and Hobbes)

Nevertheless, I have periodically pulled his collections off the shelf and re-read them, each time discovering another layer of humor or story that I originally missed. (Many of the strips had a political angle that flew over my head the first time. I was 10.) Imagine my joy when my sister, Deirdre, shows me this.

I have to get up in three hours. I stayed up to watch the Giants beat the Cowboys, but instead they get beat up early. I lose hope, but the Giants come back and take the lead with :11 to go. I am ecstatic and will sleep happy.

BUT WAIT!!!! Matt Bryant kicks the kickoff out of bounds, the Cowboys move it to the 40 and nail a FG as time expires. Overtime! The Giants hit a Field Goal with :11 left!!! The game should be over!!!!

Overtime: The Cowboys move into Field Goal position to take the win, but the Defense pushes them back and forces the punt. The Giants offense is hot and I am confident they will now win. Of course, they come up short and the defense that loves giving up 3rd and medium lets them move down the field, and the Boys win with a chip shot field goal.

I don't know who to blame, but I will find somebody. If I don't pass out while soldering tomorrow and kill myself.

I've gotten pretty damn close to finishing the script that will put excerpts of my blog on the frontpage - which is the first step of my redesign. (I originally had it backwards. I was going to pretty it up, and then work on content. After some thinking, I realized if I don't get more content up, the novelty of the pretty design will wear off quickly. As it stands, the only page worth checking out on my site is the blog. I want to change that.) If you want to check out where I am - Click Here.

As for the bitterness of the Giants loss, the more I think about it - considering the Giants started three rookies on the line and still almost beat a Bill Parcells coached team really isn't that bad. Every season you lose two you shouldn't and win two you shouldn't. If this is one of the former, then I think it's going to be okay. If you want to read a really good article on football, Parcells, the Giants and that game - check out this latest column by my favorite football writer Dr. Z. Reading it made me wish I would write like that. No great overbearing point, just a nice conversational flow. Well, at least I got the first part down.

Well, it is now officially fall, the best season of the year. The air gets a little crisper - when it's cool enough to be comfortable, but warm enough not to freeze your nostrils when you inhale. Football is there, comforting me every Sunday - taking me on a roller coaster ride of emotions (being a Giants fan helps). Television shakes off its summer doldrums and shows begin to move us again. (Gilmore Girls was tonight. West Wing is tomorrow.)

All of this, however, cannot change the fact that I am currently working my ass off. Getting up at 4AM and returning from work at 4PM is a rough day. As a result, my hobbies (i.e. this website) suffer. For those of you who do me the honor of checking it out sporadically, I do you a great disservice - for which I am sorry. However, as you may have noticed from my previous post, I've cleaned up the home page and will soon clean up the entire site.

As you can see I've been doing a little work. Most of it is behind the scenes, so that my page is standards compliant. It's not there yet, but will be soon. I have removed all tables and am trying to soley use XHTML and CSS for structure and presentation.

What does this mean to you? Not much. But as it goes forward, I will be adding external news feeds to the site, jazzing it up more, and writing it so it can be viewed in cell phones, PDAs, etc. This will shortly serve as a kind of online resume of my web design abilities. Are they good? Not yet. Will they be? I hope so.

P.S. The Amazing Race picked up an Emmy for Best Reality Series. That's right. The show to which no one pays attention, but i love was officially recognized by a bunch of idiots. Good times.

P.P.S. I'm not quite sure what to make of Carnivale (HBO) yet. Anybody else have any thoughts?
