And so ends my ridiculously short time on the unemployment dole. Amber, my lovely girlfriend and I have both acquired jobs working for Cumulus Broadcasting in Fayetteville, NC. Yes. That's Fayetteville, NC. Market #128 is located about one hour south of Raleigh, NC and two hours northwest of Myrtle Beach, SC. This means I will stay in the Eastern Time Zone, so thankfully I will still get to enjoy Monday Night Football games that end well after midnight. Good times.
As for the jobs, Amber will be doing middays at Q98, a Hot AC that's killing in town. It has an 8.5 share 12+ and is in third place. She is walking into a great situation.
As for me, I will be doing a little bit of everything for now. Some production, on-air, web design et cetera. In addition, they are very excited to find a more full-time position for me. Stay tuned.
As a result, Amber and I will be moving to Fayetteville in about a week. Rest assured, chrisboylan.com will remain your number one place to go for Chris Boylan related news. However, for now, it has to take a break as I have pulled something nasty in my back/neck area and am hopped up on pain killers and muscle relaxers. Hopefully I'll be able to actually hold my head up by tomorrow (which I can't do today). So, it's back to the couch for me.
There won't be much in the way of updates here as Amber and I frantically pack for our quickly approaching move. Give me a week or so as I close up shop here in Michigan and reopen back down in North Carolina. I plan on being up and running shortly - or as shortly as Time Warner installs my modem. I'm extremely psyched as my internet connection speed will increase from 768/128Kb to 3M down/ 384 Kb upstream. I'm actually happier with the upstream than the down as it will make web publishing remarkably quicker.
In other news, my neck is almost normal now, and will hopefully be 100% by Wednesday, when Amber and I have to load the truck. I started wearing a neck brace, which has helped my neck but reduced my already disturbingly low sexy quotient to a non-existant number.
And the new server is ready to roll, but I will delay the change until after I get to NC. All accounts will receive an email explaining everything just before it's ready to flip over.
Off to pack!!!
I had hoped by now to have been updating the move to Fayetteville in much more detail, but between Time Warner Cable's reluctance to install my cable modem, the simultaneous failure of the garbage disposal and dishwasher, and this whole new job thing, I've been a little busy. Tomorrow morning, I'm going to be on the "KIX 106.9 Morning Show" subbing in for L.A., the co-host who is on vacation. Traci, the female host (and station APD) and I will be on from vaugely 5:30 to a bit after 9ish. It's not a really stringent format.
There's four talk breaks an hour of two to three minutes. Seeing as how I lucked out by starting working on a country station, a highly patriotic format, on the national day of mourning for the man who revitalized patriotism in this country, I can't think of a better time to expose people to my mildy amusing ramblings. Yeah, so that should be full of yuks. Thankfully, management has set their level of expectations stultifyingly low. Hopefully, I can live up to them.
Now... to sleep. It's tough getting up at 4AM after six months of getting up at noon.
P.S. I haven't responded to any emails yet, so I'll get back to everybody this weekend.
Yes, it's too late to make anybody watch it, but the season finale of Deadwood is on HBO tonight at 10PM and at 8PM the best show on television, The Wire, returns for an encore of Season 2 at 8PM. Don't worry, if you miss it, it will rerun Saturday night on HBO2. Make sure you catch the best-written and Peabody award-winning drama as it reruns last season as a ramp up to the new third season in a few months.
Also, Deadwood has impressed mightily after meandering a bit after the first few episodes. I have high hopes for tonight's episode, which will be watched with quick flipovers to the Pistons-Lakers. Go Pistons!
I'm also headed home (Jersey) tomorrow for two days of satellite installation and TiVo hacking. There's also a little thing about Allison (my youngest sister) graduating from high school, but I will not be distracted.
