Web Hosting Finalized

Alrighty people, here goes.

I've placed the order for the server. It should be ready for me to get started early/mid next week. It will then take me a day or two to secure it before it's ready for everyone. Hopefully, you can start fooling around with your site on Friday, Feb 13th. I'll update everyone when I actually get the server.

As for the details:
Price is $5/month if prepaid for the year. I have no ability to easily collect money on a monthly basis, so I vastly prefer this method. Just make out a check to me for $60. If you need my address, email me. If you can't do that, email me and we can arrange something, but it'll have to be closer to $6/month.
What you get:
    250MB of web space
1GB of transfer/month - this means what you download and upload may not exceed 1 GB each month
    1 MySQL database
    20 email addresses

You can run PHP and will have access to CPanel to set up email addresses and all sort of other fancy things. If any of these restrictions are too much, we can probably work something out. It's all good.

What's not good? Any illegal files. Copyrighted material that is publicly accessible is a no-no. No porn, no hacking stuff, no libel. If it's gonna get me sued or arrested - that's bad. Other than that, anything goes.

As soon as I get payment and the server is ready, you can move in. If you get it to me before the end of February, you can have the rest of the month free, your 12 months won't start until March. In addition, if you refer someone, tell them to mention you when they sign up, and I'll give you a free month.

I'm sure I've forgotten a lot, so please ask questions here(you'll need to register first). All support will be given through this forum, so that other people can learn from your questions.

Thanks,
Chris

Web Hosting Finalizes Questions

Postby hifitoy » Thu Feb 5, 04 1:02am

Chris:

Do you take Paypal for the annual server payment?

Is this amount of web space and upload a lot - 250MB of web space, 1GB of transfer/month - this means what you download and upload may not exceed 1 GB each month - ?

What is this stuff - 1 MySQL database, run PHP and will have access to CPanel - ?

What I'm trying to say is, will my site fit with regular updates and additional photos and audio, hmmmm?

Thanks Boy-lan.

I don't take paypal yet, but that could be happening soon. Basically, I don't know enough about paypal, but it appears that they take a nick out of every transaction. If it makes things easier, I may do it eventually.

As for the space, 250 MB is probably about 25 times more than you need. The average web page generated by Front Page is probably about 30-50 KB. You'd be able to fit about 5,000 of those.

In addition, the server fully supports Front Page.

MySQL is a database that is necessary for some programs, like this forum. PHP is a programming language that lets you run more complicated web pages. CPanel helps you set up email addresses, look at your site's stats and other cool utilities. If you don't want to use these things, then you don't have to. They are simply options that are available if you choose to use them.

And yes, they are Blain's head. The more you post, the more of his heads turn to color.

After some further investigation, I will not be offering PayPal. If you want to know why, then check out PayPal Sucks.
